Atchison County sports teams gearing up for 2018 fall seasons

East Atchison football underway

The East Atchison high school football team is gearing up for the 2018 season. The team started practice Monday morning, August 6, to prepare for their first game Friday, August 24. The gridiron action begins at Fairfax at 7 p.m. that evening vs. Southwest Livingston.

East Atchison volleyball girls take to the court

The East Atchison high school volleyball team headed to the gym for the first day of practice Monday, August 6, 2018. The girls, including Cat Prater and Lily Graves, above, worked on strength and conditioning as well as honing their ball handling skills. The Lady Wolves will host a jamboree with Union Star and Nodaway-Holt on August 21 at 5 p.m. in Tarkio to set the season in motion.

EA Cross Country and Girls’ Golf
start practices

The East Atchison Cross Country and Girls’ Golf teams have also starting practicing for the upcoming seasons. Girls’ Golf begins August 27 at Maryville Best Shot Tournament and Cross Country begins August 28 at Maryville.

Rock Port football team preparing for 2018 season

The Rock Port Blue Jays high school football team held its first day of practice Monday, August 6. Pictured above is Coach Jones, right, giving directions to the men. The 2018 season begins at 7 p.m. August 24 with DeKalb at Rock Port.

Practice at 6:15 for Blue Jay Cross Country Team

Ready to go at 6:15 a.m., On Tuesday, August 7, the Rock Port Cross Country team meets at Blue Jay Stadium for practice. Front row: Ethan Brumbaugh, Fischer Tharp, Remington Stoner, Aubrey Watkins and Harlee Pritt. Back row: Cody Davis, Preston Jones, Rebekah Lucas, Preston Klappenbach and Emma Pankau. The team will travel to Maryville on Tuesday, August 28, for the Maryville Invitational as their season opener.
