Fairfax Board of Aldermen

The Fairfax Board of Aldermen met November 15, 2017. The meeting was called to order by Ryan Kingery, Mayor, at 6:30 p.m. Roll was taken. Those in attendance were: aldermen Kristi Duering, Mike Oswald, Tabitha Wintz, and Beth Graves, Mayor Ryan Kingery, City Clerk Kristy McDonald, former City Clerk Melissa Gilpin, Water Superintendent John Brown, and Treasurer Danny Kemerling.
The board voted to approve the tentative agenda and the regular minutes of October 18, 2017. The board also approved the accounts payable and financial statement.
PTO accrual was discussed. The council decided to leave the sick and holiday pay as it currently is, but the vacation will be changed to an accrual method instead of it all being awarded at the beginning of the year. City Clerk McDonald will provide the council with a revised entry for the employee handbook at the next meeting to be approved.
Mayor Kingery presented the council with a question from a citizen regarding when the Christmas lights get turned on. John Brown explained that KCP&L is in control of when the lights that are on the light poles get turned on. They are installed and controlled by KCP&L and the city does not get to decide when they are installed or turned on. The lights at the park will not get turned on until Light Night which is November 25.
Heather from Aflac Insurance presented options that are available with the Aflac insurance policy. Heather then set up her information outside of the meeting room for sign up.
The preliminary 2018 budget was discussed at length. The council had some changes they would like to see made and they will discuss again at the next meeting. Melissa Gilpin left the meeting at 8:20 p.m.
Staff Reports
Danny Kemerling presented his treasurer’s report to the council showing that all accounts are in balance.
John Brown reported that there are repairs that need to be done to the Boy Scout cabin in the park and they are going to work on that this week. He also informed the council that the new roof for the snack shack has been completed.
Kristy McDonald presented the council with a quote from Midwest Data Center regarding a website dedicated to the city. The council decided not to pursue the website any further.
The meeting was adjourned at 9:25 p.m. The next meeting is December 20 at 6:30 p.m.
