John D. Hunley, the son of Robert D. and Roberta (Simpson) Hunley, was born November 15, 1939, in Thurman, Iowa. He attended country school in Thurman.
In the summer of 1982, John was united in marriage to Beverly Deering at the Tarkio Baptist Church in Tarkio, Missouri. They made their home in Watson, Missouri, and following the flood in 1993, they moved to Tarkio.
John was employed at Goode Grain in Hamburg, Iowa, and then as a farm hand doing seasonal work for Tim Whelan in Watson. He was a carpenter who excelled in woodworking and could make anything out of wood. John enjoyed being outdoors and spent many hours gardening. According to his family, he grew the “best tomatoes.” John passed away Wednesday, May 2, 2018, at Community Hospital-Fairfax, Fairfax, Missouri, at the age of 78.
In addition to his parents, John was preceded in death by two infant sons and three brothers. Survivors include wife, Beverly Hunley, Tarkio; five stepdaughters, Debbie (Rex) Kellum, Norfolk, Virginia, June (Richard) Harvey, Emporia, Kansas, Teresa Torrence, Mona Horn and Toni Deering, all of Everett, Washington; ten grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; two sisters; one brother; and numerous nieces and nephews.
A funeral service was held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, May 5, 2018, at the Assembly of God Church, Tarkio. Interment was held at Home Cemetery, Tarkio.
