Maverick McFarland, son of Tim and Jayne McFarland of Oregon Missouri, grandson of Kay Graves of Fairfax and member of Boy Scout Troop #81, was hired on staff at Camp Geiger for the 2018 camping season.  Serving on staff at Camp Geiger is a highly sought after honor among Scouts from across the country.  After a thorough application process Maverick was chosen as one of twelve scouts to participate in the GSIT (Geiger Staff in Training) program in the summer of 2017.  Based on skills demonstrated throughout that 3 week program and an additional application process in the fall, Maverick was chosen to serve as a full-time staff member for summer of 2018.
Camp Geiger is situated on the Missouri River bluffs just north of Saint Joseph.  The Boy Scout Resident Camp is operated by the Pony Express Council, BSA and is accredited by the Central Region, BSA. Started in 1935, the camp has served thousands of Scouts as their summer home away from home.  It offers one of the widest varieties of programs of any BSA summer camp with over 50 merit badge activities, a COPE (Challenging Outdoor Personal Encounter) course, swimming, climbing, rowing, canoeing, a rifle range, etc.  There is also the Tribe of Mic-O-Say.  Mic-O-Say is a society of exceptional scouts and leaders, so honored because of their character and leadership.
