We are off and running in the second semester here at RPHS. Hopefully all of you had a chance to spend some quality time with family and friends over the holiday season. These cold temps have sure hit us hard these last couple of weeks, so I hope everyone is also staying healthy and warm!
This time of year can be hard on students as they transition back into the routine of school. We thank you parents for what you do to give some of them that “extra” motivation to get out the door on these cold mornings! We certainly jump right in with academics and activities these next couple of weeks, so it is important they are here and don’t fall behind early on this quarter.
As of today when I am writing this (Jan. 4), we will be hosting our first ever Junior High Scholar Bowl matches tonight! We are excited to start our Scholar Bowl team now at the Junior High level, as it will encourage students to get started with this great activity earlier. We have 16 out for the squad, which means 36% of our students want to be involved! That is pretty exciting news for Coach Parsons and our team. They will have matches every Thursday in January.
There are a few upcoming events of which I want to make you aware. We will have a busy night here on Tuesday, January 16, as we host Nodaway-Holt in basketball and host a Wrestling Quad with Albany, Falls City and HTRS as well. That night will be our Wrestling Homecoming, with coronation beginning at 5 p.m. and wrestling action beginning at 5:30 p.m. in the South Gym. Our basketball games will be held in the North Gym that night beginning at 5 p.m., and that gives us a chance to play a throwback game in the “old” gym…one that has seen countless games in the past. It should be a fun night and a packed house here that night. Our Basketball Homecoming will be on Friday, February 2, vs South Holt, beginning at 5 p.m. We will do the coronation that evening at the end of the varsity boys’ game. Senior Night for basketball will be on Tuesday, February 13, when we host Stewartsville.
I hope that 2018 is off to a great start for you, and I know we will have a great second half of the year here at school. As always, if you have Twitter, please follow us @RPBlueJays. We post daily lots of the great things that are happening here at school. Until next time…Go Blue Jays!
