Tarkio, Missouri, Post Office City Carrier Assistant Ashley Dalton was honored for her dedication to not only delivering the mail, but taking care of her customers. While approaching a house in Tarkio on a recent delivery route, Ashley smelled the odor of natural gas. The citizen inside the home had not detected the smell and had no idea something was wrong. Ashley had the resident leave his home and call 911 to report the leak. Shortly afterward, a gas company representative arrived and inspected the home, discovering a hole in the supply line leading to the customer’s stove. The air was saturated with gas. The representative told the customer that the air in his home contained 64 percent natural gas, a highly dangerous situation that could have easily turned deadly.
Thanks to Ashley’s concern and action, the leak was repaired, eliminating the danger. Tarkio Postmaster Barney Farley said, “Ashley’s quick and caring action in this situation is to be commended. It is a shining example of how an engaged employee can affect and protect the lives of our customers. Way to go Ashley and thank you!”
