Hello Blue Jay Nation. I hope everyone is excited for the warmth of the summer months and the family opportunities that arise at this time of year. The Walker family looks forward to camping, travel, soccer and barbecue as we await the start of Rock Port Blue Jays fall activities and Buffalo Bills season.
With the regular school year coming to a close, it is time to reflect and prepare for the upcoming school year. The custodial staff is busy getting our facilities ready for the 2016-17 school year. Projects that will be tackled during this time include painting in the elementary hallway, repairing maintenance issues, and refinishing the floors. At the beginning of July, work will start at Blue Jay Stadium on resurfacing the all-weather track. It is our hope that the track will be completed before the start of the school year.
The Rock Port School District will implement a few additions to the curriculum for the 2016-17 school year. We are adding STEM to our science curriculum through Project Lead the Way in the elementary grades K -5. The district recently purchased farm ground that will provide learning opportunities for our agriculture classes and FFA programs. Over time the district’s plans to add an outdoor learning space and possibly a school garden. The high school has made a slight adjustments to the daily schedule for the 2016-17 school year. These changes will allow the district to offer three new courses of study for our students: Arts and Careers, Appreciation of Literature, and Biology 2. We are very excited for the positive impact these programs will have on student learning and achievement.
During the summer months, it is imperative that our district reviews our performance in order to make plans for improvements for this upcoming year. The Rock Port School District would like your feedback. We have linked a parent survey to our school website. Please take the time to fill-out and submit the survey giving us your opinion on the performance of the district. We look forward to reviewing all submissions and looking for ways to make our learning experience better for our students and staff. As always you can follow our student and district success on twitter @RPBlueJays.
Mr. Craig Walker,
Superintendent
Rock Port R-II School District
