Several award winning wines will be featured amongst the 12 wineries participating in Missouri’s Great Northwest Wine Fest, September 24, 2016, 12:00 noon – 8:00 p.m. Plans are all coming together nicely for this seventh annual event, to be held in Mound City’s North Griffith Park.
With this being Northwest Missouri Enterprise Facilitation’s biggest fundraiser, the committee is pleased with the increase in new wines and wineries featured, additional new vendor booths, the variety of foods being offered and a complete array of outstanding talent to be shared throughout the event. The event will offer a fun-filled afternoon and evening at this beautiful fall setting next to Mound City Development Corporation’s vineyards.
New wineries this year will be: VOX Winery, Kansas City; Terre Beau Winery, Dover; Fence Stile Winery, Excelsior Springs; and Grindstone Valley Winery, Osborn. Returning to the Wine Fest are: Weston Wine Company, Weston; Windy Wine Company, Osborn; Ladoga Ridge Winery, Smithville; Baltimore Bend Winery, Waverly; Riverwood Winery, Weston/Rushville; Jowler Creek Winery, Platte City; Pirtle Winery, Weston; and Tipple Hill Winery, Easton. Each winery has their own unique tastes and grape varieties, specialty named wines, and some are made with Mound City’s grapes.
The food booths that will be presenting their delights are: Two Sisters Catering (formerly of Brownville Lyceum) – barbeque, brisket, quiche and more; Enchilada Lady, Oregon – Mexican goodies; Wabash Junction Restaurant, Stanberry – gourmet soups and desserts; the Grillers of Savannah’s Knights of Columbus – burgers, brats and dogs; and Food Country, Rock Port – cheese samples, cheese plates and fruit. Other foods to be featured are homemade breads, grape pies, jams, jellies and more, all afternoon and evening.
A gourmet sit-down dinner will be served from 4:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. in the shelter house. Food Country Catering, Rock Port, will offer a choice of two entrées with a complete meal for $11. A full bar to include domestic beers will also be offered by The Klub, Mound City, in the shelter house.
A wide variety of artisan booths will be distribed around the park for the entirety of the day’s activities. Attendees can purchase items such as handcrafted jewelry, wine and home decorative items, fall flowers, pumpkins, yard art, health products, purses and bags, photography, candles, hand-crafted items, baked items, jams, jellies, and more.
Northwest Missouri Enterprise Facilitation board members are also offering a large giveaway of the following: a 35-bottle wine refrigerator; a “Wine Cellar Basket” of wines furnished by the wineries; and certificates or cash totaling at least $100 each from each of the six counties served by NWMEF. Also, a large 50/50 drawing is being held with winner taking one-half the proceeds.
Celebrity guest artist, Matt Snook of “The Voice” will be featured on the stage located close to the vineyards. Returning musicians include Devon and Mikaela Sons, Maryville; Esther Laurie Rardon, Platte City; The Saranades from Mound City; and Frank Rardon, Kansas City.
“Grape stompings” will occur in the afternoon. Tables and chairs will be provided or bring your own lawn chairs. Admission is $20 a person which includes samplings and an etched glass; $10 for non-consumers and minors; and $5 for children 10 and under.
Proceeds from this fundraising event go toward the continuation of Northwest Missouri Enterprise Facilitation’s free, confidential business coaching in the counties of Atchison, Andrew, Gentry, Holt, Nodaway, and Worth. NWMEF assists in starting up new businesses and entrepreneurships through the service of its facilitator, Keli Morris. In the last 10 years, 83 businesses have been started and retained in Northwest Missouri. The business coaching is confidential and free each time used.
