The age-old boundary dispute between Nebraska and Missouri was revived this week. The county courts of Atchison and Holt counties joined in an appeal to Missouri Gov. Warren Hearns to determine the state line between Missouri and Nebraska to end the dispute of land ownership along the Missouri River.
August 19, 1976

A steamboat 80 feet wide and 300 feet long called the Merriwether Lewis will be dry-docked in Brownville, Nebraska, if enough money is raised to bring the boat from where it is presently located. The boat will be converted into a museum of Missouri River history from pre-historic times to the present.

August 14, 1986

Thirty junior high and high school students participated in the golf tournament sponsored by the Rock Port Ladies’ Golf Association.
The 1986 Fall EMT Training Course, conducted by NWMSU and the Atchison-Holt Ambulance District, will be starting on September 2 at the Community Hospital. The course is offered to those who wish to increase their knowledge in emergency medical care.

Auxiliary members of Community Hospital Association gave out an Auxilian of the Year Award. Charter member Marie Emrick was chosen by Auxilians and honored as the volunteer of the year. Mrs. Emrick, secretary for the organization for the past several years, has generously offered her home for quilting projects and participated in other service projects.

The Atchison County Memorial Building’s Liberty Theatre brought the magical story of “The Wizard of Oz” to life. Filled with youth and adults from the community, this production left the audience mesmerized. Over 100 community members have pulled together to make this show possible, including Director Bev Jones.
