Tarkio R-I School District has hired Rob Dowis as the interim superintendent for the 2016-17 school year. Rob is no stranger to Tarkio, being a former resident, and his smiling face is a welcome addition to the Tarkio R-I school family.
Rob’s Tarkio past goes back to Tarkio College. He and his family moved to Tarkio in 1989 so that Rob could coach. He later became the administrator for the college’s bankruptcy estate and then worked for Youth Services International (YSI), which was located on the college campus.
In 1998, Rob and his family moved to Nodaway County, Missouri, where he became the superintendent at Jefferson C-123 School District. He worked there for 16 years before retiring in 2014.
Rob is looking forward to his duties at Tarkio R-I. He said he has at least 300 reasons (students, faculty, and staff) to be here and help out, not only the school, but the community as well. His goal is to help the school run smoothly while the school searches for a permanent superintendent. But in the meantime, he’s happy to be here and Tarkio community members and school officials are happy to have him.
