In week two of the rainy season the Rock Port Blue Jays traveled to Barnard, Missouri to take-on the Platte Valley Longhorns in their second conference match-up.
Once again, the rain didn’t stop the entire game as the Jays received the opening kick-off. With the ball on the Longhorn 29 yard line, the Jays offense marched down the field. Five plays later runningback #27 Caden Linthicum gave Rock Port its first of five touchdowns. Quentin Carder scored next giving the Jays a 16-0 lead. Following a fumble caused by Tyler Jones and recovered by Ryan Dewhirst, quarterback Jase Hughes connected up with receivers Tyler Jones and Caden Linthicum for the next two touchdown giving the Jays a 40-0 lead at half time.
After, following half time the Jays kicked-off to the Longhorns. The Longhorns ended their drive with a safety giving Rock Port two points and the ball making the score 42-0. Ten plays later Quentin Carder ended the game with a five yard run for six points making the final score 48-0.
Leading tacklers for Rock Port were: Tyler Jones 18, Quentin Carder and Ryan Dewhirst with 8, Dalton Brake 7, Gavin Abbott 6, and Carter Ottmann and Trenton Oswald both had 5.
Looking ahead to next Friday’s game with the Stewartsville Cardinals. The Cardinals come in to the game with a 1 and 1 record, beating North West Nodaway in their first game 28-26. Last week they played Mound City losing 50 to 0 at Mound City.
The Cardinals have a new Head Coach with Jeff White who joined them from Cameron. This is his first year coaching 8 man. Players to watch will be seniors quarterback Gage Rush who threw for more than 1,000 yards last year and Denton Yeager who defensively was the sack leader last season.
