A new storm/warning siren for the City of Fairfax was installed Monday, October 31, 2016. The old siren was blown down during the storm that hit Fairfax in July and no longer worked properly.
The cost of the siren was covered by the city’s insurance, and KCP&L donated the pole, equipment, and a crew to come to Fairfax and raise the pole. John Brown, Utilities Supervisor, said KCP&L was very generous with their time, money, and efforts. “It would have been a very difficult task without their equipment and help!” he said.
The new siren is supposed to be louder than the old siren. The pole it sets on makes the new siren approximately 20’ taller than the old siren, which should also help the sound travel farther.
