Atchison County kicked off their holiday fundraising efforts after Thanksgiving. Kettles were put out throughout the county. Volunteers collected donations in Fairfax on Highway 59 Friday, December 2, 2016. Tarkio collected money Saturday, December 3, at the T intersection of Highway 59 and 136, with Tarkio students, teachers, and community members ringing the bells.
Rock Port will be setting out kettles and ringing the bells December 22 and 23 in front of Casey’s and Food Country. The donation envelopes have gone out and checks may be made payable to the Atchison County Salvation Army Treasury at 218 South Maple Street, Tarkio, Missouri 64491. All check donations need to say Atchison County Salvation Army. All money raised in Atchison County (except 14%) is used in our county.
The Salvation Army Red Kettle campaign is more than a century-old tradition of raising money for those in need. The money collected during The Salvation Army’s Red Kettle campaign will support many programs including food assistance, emergency rent and utility assistance, youth and senior programs, eyeglasses, wheelchair repair, dental work and much more!
A total of the 86% of the money raised in Atchison County stays in our county. Of each dollar raised by the Salvation Army, 93 cents goes to the needy.
