Tiffany Care Centers is pleased to announce the addition of LSVT BIG™ to its physical therapy and occupational therapy programs at their Maryville, Mound City, Oregon and Rock Port facilities on an out-patient basis. LSVT BIG™ provides an innovative and clinically-proven method for improving communication and movement in individuals with Parkinson’s disease.
TCC Rehab therapist Rosvic Galapin, PT, attended an intensive two-day training and workshop and is now certified to provide this treatment. “We are so excited to implement LSVT Big into our Out-Patient Therapy Program. This program can truly make a difference in the lives of people, within the communities we serve, who are dealing with the effects of Parkinson’s disease,” Colette Lehmann, TCC Rehab Director said.
LSVT BIG™ was developed to specifically address the unique movement impairments for people with Parkinson’s disease and results reveal clinically significant improvements in motor control, gait quality, balance and trunk rotation after completion of the program. The protocol is both intensive and complex, with many repetitions of core movements that are used in daily living.
LSVT BIG™ is a research-based exercise approach developed from principles of effective Parkinson’s speech treatment LSVT LOUD™. The program has been developed and scientifically researched over the past 20 years with funding from the National Institutes of Health. The program consists of an initial evaluation followed by 16 treatments, with a home exercise program included. “After the 16 treatments are completed a maintenance program is established and regular “tune-ups, are scheduled to monitor the progress of our patients” Mr. Galapin said. According to Galapin, “my goal with every client is to improve their motor functioning which helps them walk faster with bigger steps, improve their overall balance and increase trunk rotation so they can live a more active life.”
Tiffany Care Centers accepts most insurances and offers convenient scheduling and booking evaluations. For questions on LSVT™ methods or other services offered, please call 1-800-633-6507 to speak with the TCC Rehab Director.
