Charlie Smith, daughter of Dan and Ginny Smith of Fairfax, Mo., rocks a routine with the Aspire cheer team.

Aspire, a large Junior 3 All Star Cheerleading team from TumbleCheer All Stars, has won a bid to D2 Summit. Charlie Smith, daughter of Dan and Ginny Smith of Fairfax, Missouri, has been a member on Aspire, out of Riverside, Missouri, for the past two years. She practices with her team at least two times a week and will attend a total of nine competitions this season.
All Star cheerleading is different from school cheer in that they don’t use poms, signs, or cheers, as they are not affiliated with a school team. All Star teams are created for the sole purpose of competing. Their two and a half minute routine is a combination of the 23 team members doing jumps, stunting, tumbling and dance.
D2 Summit is the big end-of-the-year competition for small All Star cheer gyms. (Similar to the Super Bowl for cheerleading.) In order to attend this competition, teams must earn a bid at a qualifying event during the competition season. Aspire competed the weekend of January 28, in St. Louis, Missouri, and earned a bid with a score of 94.2 out of 100.
Charlie will be traveling with her team to Orlando, Florida, in May, where they will compete at the ESPN Wide World of Sports at the Walt Disney World Resort, against teams from all over the nation.
