The Northwest Missouri Solid Waste Management District has grant funds available from the Missouri Department of Natural Resources Solid Waste Management Program to distribute to both public and private entities throughout Atchison, Gentry, Holt, Nodaway, and Worth Counties. The grant funds are intended to reduce the amount of waste entering the local waste stream and facilitate recycling. Some examples of projects include the purchase of wood chippers, aluminum and cardboard balers, forklifts, trailers, and recycling bins. Composting and other organic recycling methods can be viable projects as well. District Grant funds have also been used for electronic and household hazardous waste collections, outdoor classrooms, recycling education, rubberized playground surfaces and recycling business expansion.
Recycling markets are starting to pick-up. This may be the time to initiate or expand a recycling project in your community. The Northwest Missouri Solid Waste Management District, Region A, currently has $84,742.83 due to carryover funds from the 2017 fiscal year. We are anxious to get these recycling and diversion funds out in the community to help rebuild the recycling infrastructure in northwest Missouri. If you have any projects you have been thinking about, please give us a call to discuss your proposal.
