The City of Fairfax Board of Aldermen met February 8, 2017. The meeting was called to order by Alva Stoner, Mayor, at 6:02 p.m. Those in attendance were: Kristi Duering, Mike Oswald, and Ryan Kingery, Aldermen; Alva Stoner, Mayor; Melissa Gilpin, City Clerk; Danny Kemerling, Treasurer; and John Brown, Water Superintendent.
The board approved the regular minutes of January 11, 2017, as well as the accounts payable.
Melissa Gilpin presented bill #2017-01, titled A resolution, authorizing individuals of certain positions as authorized signers for banking purposes on accounts now registered or hereafter registered in the name of the City of Fairfax. Alva Stoner read by title. All aldermen voted to approve the resolution, which was assigned Resolution #2017-1539.
After a brief discussion, Mike Oswald made a motion that the two CD’s at Bank Midwest that are maturing this month will be converted to 15 month CD’s with a 1.00 interest rate. If the rates stay the same the CD that matures in March will be converted to a 15 month CD at the same rate. Ryan Kingery seconded. Motion passed unanimously.
Staff Reports
Danny Kemerling reported that all accounts are in balance.
John Brown reported that he and Steve Stevens will be attending the Missouri Water Wastewater Conference in April. They gain hours for attendance at classes that are required to maintain their licenses. The backhoe wearbar is broken and needing replaced. The cost is approximately $350.00. Also, the winter mix shed is in need of repair. Repair costs are approximately $700.00. John was asked to shop around to see if he could find repair supplies at a lower cost.
The meeting moved into closed session. The council came back to open session at 7:35 p.m. Kristi Duering moved to hire Sandra Wilmes for the temporary part-time clerk position at a rate of $9.00 per hour. Ryan Kingery seconded. The motion passed unanimously.
The meeting was adjourned. The next meeting will be held March 8, 2017.
