The regular meeting of the Tarkio R-I Board of Education was held Thursday, February 16, 2017, at 5:00 p.m. in the board meeting room at Tarkio High School. The meeting was called to order by President Steve Klute at 5:00 p.m. with reciting the Pledge of Allegiance. Attending the meeting were board members Chris Yates, Corey Lesher, Jamie Barnett, Lydia Hurst, Rachel Graves, and Bruce Lang coming in at 5:15 p.m. and board secretary Diane Hicks. Others in attendance included Tarkio High School Principal Carrie Livengood, Tarkio Elementary Principal Dr. Deborah Taylor, Tarkio R-I Interim Superintendent Bruce Skoglund, Tarkio R-I Interim Superintendent Rob Dowis, Karma Coleman, Jennifer Peregrine, HT Adams, Stephanie Parsons, Heidi Hale, Sean Feehan, Dallas Prather, and Dara Wennihan.
The minutes from the January 19, 2017, meeting were approved, as well as the transfer of incidental funds to special revenue to pay certificated teachers. The consent agenda was approved as presented, as well as districts obligations.
Jennifer Peregrine introduced herself and spoke about being the speech implementer. Heidi Hale introduced herself and talked about her reading classes and the French that is offered. Sean Feehan talked about his science classes and the interesting things the students are doing.
The 2017-18 preschool handbook was reviewed and several procedures were updated and approved.
Rachel moved and Lydia seconded to drop the lowest tuition offered. The motion carried 6-0-1.
HT Adams has been meeting with companies in regards to contract busing. Mr. Adams will have a complete report for the March meeting.
Dr. Taylor reported that the elementary enrollment total at this time is 194 students. The attendance rate is holding at 94%.
Mrs. Livengood reported the overall attendance is at 96.91%.
Mr. Adams reported that two loads of gravel has been delivered for a drive to the new FFA farm project.
Mrs. Wennihan requested permission for an overnight trip for FCCLA State Star events at the end of March. The overnight trip was approved. Mrs. Parsons requested permission for an overnight FBLA trip April 2-4th. The overnight trip was approved.
Corey moved and Jamie seconded to approve the second reading of the calendar with adjustments to the late starts. The motion carried. Lydia moved and Bruce seconded to table the board policies update to the March meeting. The motion carried. The board voted to approve the new substitute. The board voted to accept the resignation of Gretchen Garrett and the retirement of Ruth Gebhards. The meeting moved to closed session to record and vote pursuant to RSMo 610.001-610.22 at 7:04 p.m. The meeting came out of closed session at 8:15 p.m.
Bruce moved and Lydia seconded to offer contracts to Dr. Taylor for the 2017-18 and the 2018-19 school year as the elementary principal with a two percent increase in pay plus any increase to base salary on the district salary schedule. The motion carried. Bruce moved and Lydia seconded to offer contracts to Carrie Livengood for the 2017-18 and 2018-19 school year as the high school principal with a two percent increase in pay plus any increase to the base salary on the district salary schedule. The motion carried. Bruce moved and Lydia seconded to pay Rob Dowis, Interim Superintendent, $16,850 for the second half of his letter of intent. The motion carried. Bruce moved and Lydia seconded to pay Carrie Livengood a $2,000 stipend for the Special Education Director for the 2016-17 school year. The motion carried. The meeting adjourned at 8:20 p.m.
