The Missouri Department of Conservation (MDC) will be conducting a Women’s Introduction to Handguns Course on Sunday, June 4. The course will begin at 2 p.m. at the Velma Houts Building in Rock Port (201 U.S. 136) and conclude that evening around 5:30 p.m. at the Atchison County Shooting Sports Range located south of Rock Port.
The focus of the course is to introduce handgun shooting fundamentals to women. The course instruction will cover handgun safety, familiarization, proper grip, shooting form, and more. There will be an hour of instruction followed by an afternoon of shooting on a range.
Participants may bring their own handguns along with a box of ammunition for each handgun (if not a caliber stated below). Additional ammunition which will be provided include, .22, .380 auto, 9mm and 40 S&W calibers. MDC will provide additional .22 and .38 caliber handguns and ammunition for those participants which do not have a handgun. Eye and ear protection will be provided, but participants are encouraged to bring their own.
Registration is required to participate and is limited to 20 women. The minimum age to participate is 18 years old. To register, contact Georgia Houghton at 660-736-4780.
This event is for women only; spouses, boyfriends, etc… are not allowed to attend.
Food and refreshments will be provided for the afternoon on the range.
