Fairfax Sorosis met February 19, 2018, at the home of Pam Cooper. We could say it was a beautiful day for a drive in the country, but it was gray and cloudy. That mood ended when we were welcomed into Pam’s warm and cozy home with a terrific view. Due to the absence of our president, vice-president Pam called the meeting to order. She introduced Marilyn Aldredge, our program guest for the day. Marilyn spoke to us about the Community Hospital Auxiliary Gift Shop. She gave us an overall view of what it does and what it takes to keep it open and shelves stocked. She said that without the many volunteers from all over the county who donate many hours it wouldn’t be possible. Marilyn describes it as a work of the heart. The buying methods have changed but they are still able to provide quality merchandise for gift buyers. The Auxiliary sponsors several fund raising events during the year and those funds are used to benefit the hospital. Put the date of March 2nd on your calendar. There will be a 50% off on all merchandise displayed in the conference room only that day.
After the program we enjoyed coffee and cupcakes served by hostesses Pam and Debbie. It was delicious but I think I heard some discussion about the coffee. Pam thought it might be too strong, others ok and I just dumped in my coffee creamer and have no idea who was right! I choose to think it was ok because our guest decided to spend the afternoon with us.
The business meeting was called to order by Pam. Roll call was: “A Gift I’ll Never Forget.” The minutes of the previous meeting were read and with a small correction, approved. The treasurer’s report was given. Our balance remains the same. A letter from the After Prom Committee was read. A motion was made by Carolyn Pyeatt and seconded by Barb Jones to send the After Prom committee a donation of $25. All approved. Carolyn gave the critic report. She read a quote about presidents and an Amish joke. The one I liked was the one about how we see ourselves and our surroundings in the mirror before and after we put on our glasses. It can be a humbling experience. Ha!
The Bon Mot was read and the Collect recited. Barb made a motion to adjourn the meeting. Mary Anne seconded and the meeting was adjourned.
