In the April 6th municipal election, the Fairfax R-III School District is asking for a 50 cent increase per one hundred dollars of assessed valuation. This increase will generate an estimated 50,000 additional dollars to the district.
This year’s brain bowlers are preparing for upcoming competitions. Team members include Carrie Bradfield, Daniel Smith, Phillip Roop, and Dustin Barnes.

Representing Fairfax Community Housing, Inc., with a membership of 123, is the board of directors, including president Earle E. Sims, vice-president William D. Umbarger, treasurer Harry Emrick, secretary Mrs. Shirley Wennihan, Doyne Swan, Milo Monk, and Harold Snyder.
Two leap year babies were born at Fairfax Community Hospital. Pictures in the paper showed Mrs. Kenneth McCall of Farragut, Iowa, posing with her new daughter, Colleen Kay, born February 29 at 9:08 a.m. and Mrs. John Leach of Rock Port shown with her new son, Steven Allan, born on February 29 at 3:05 p.m.

According to an estimate of the U.S. Census Bureau, Atchison County has lost 1,161 in population since 1940. The bureau estimates the present population of the county at 11,161. The 1940 census gave the county 12,889.
Several months ago Mr. and Mrs. Guy Graves donated some books in the Victory Book Campaign to be sent to men in the service. They received a letter last week describing how their book donation “The Day of the Beast,” as well as others, kept men occupied while they were quarantined for scarlet fever at Sheppard Field in Texas. In the barracks were 107 men. “When the orderly brought several books over they became as valuable as gold. Two boys would read them over another’s shoulder as they didn’t have enough to go around, but all seemed happy.”
