This year Rock Port held the 67th National Day of Prayer observance on May 3, 2018, inside the Atchison County Memorial Building. Sharon Rosenbohm welcomed everyone and Jim Eagans gave the opening prayer. The First Christian Church of Rock Port was the host for this year’s event. The Presentation of Colors by the Ralph Greer American Legion Post #49, Rock Port entered and Troy Cook and members of Cub Scout Pack 59 led everyone in the Pledge of Allegiance. Dennis Martin read the Mayor’s Proclamation and Amy Moore introduced Thomas Herron as the speaker of the event. There were five prayers lifted up for Unity 4 America. Each prayer was read by an associated presenter: Education – Steve Waigand, Churches – Jared Meyerkorth, Families – Molly Spiegel, Government – Richard Burke and Media – Michael Richardson. Shawn Minter again lent his musical talents by singing “God Bless the USA”. Those gathered joined in the closing music. Retirement of the Colors was conducted by the Ralph Greer American Legion Post #49. The closing prayer was offered by Paul Tiemeyer. Sack lunches, organized by The First Christian Church, were enjoyed along with fellowship.
