Every Monday and Wednesday, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., volunteers at the Holt County Historical Society Genealogy and Research Center, 612 State Street, in Mound City, welcome visitors searching for area ancestors. Thousands of original obituaries, along with family files, school, military, towns, and other records, provide valuable information. The Atchison County cemetery book “Revised Edition – Gone But Not Forgotten,” was recently donated by Nancy Peters, Corning, to the Society’s Center. The indexed 11”x14” hard cover enlarged print book includes a listing of all known burials in Atchison County from 1840 to 2017, along with maps, cemetery histories and photographs.
The annual Fortescue School Reunion is set for Saturday, May 26, at 1 p.m. at the Methodist Church Museum, 115 Ada Street, Fortescue. Former students, families and friends gather for a buffet meal and to renew friendships. This is a fundraiser for the Holt County Historical Society.
The Society’s Mound City Depot Museum lawn will be filled with good stuff Monday, May 28, beginning at 8 a.m., during Mound City’s annual Memorial Day City Wide Garage Sale. Located at the south end of Mound City’s State Street, and across the Davis Creek bridge, shoppers will find antiques, collectables, doors, windows and other treasures at the Society fundraiser.
