Atchison County farmers have been so sorely delayed with their corn planting operations this spring by prolonged wet weather that they are far behind their usual schedule for this spring chore. While some corn is above the ground, the great majority of farmers have not yet done any planting. One rain after another has interfered with the work. Those who had intended last weekend to get at the job the first of the week were again delayed a few days when further rain fell Sunday night.

Mrs. Dan LaHue was elected president of the alumni association succeeding Mrs. Elizabeth Taylor at the association’s 1968 banquet Friday at the Rock Port R-2 school gymnasium. Miss Jayne Ann Ottmann and Rick Oswald were elected vice-presidents and Charles Knierim was re-elected secretary-treasurer. There were 303 graduates and their spouses attending the banquet held in honor of the classes of 1968, 1943 and 1918.

The Blue Jays ran well at the District meet, taking home 1st and 2nd place team wise. The boys took first place and are sending nine to state. The girls took second and are sending eight to state. They are running their best and should be a force to reckon with this year.
The boys’ golf team captured a disappointing second place in the District Tournament on Tuesday, May 11. They lost by one stroke to South Harrison, 324 to Rock Port’s 325. Individuals placing and their scores were: Mark Bennington and Tad Gebhards tied for second with 79, Cory Scamman placed 6th with 81, Jason Stephens placed 10th with 86 and Michael Phelps placed 12th with 87.
