The City of Rock Port and Rock Port Volunteer Fire Department Chief Scott Jones would like to remind citizens of the city’s burn ordinance. According to the Open Burning Restrictions and Fire Prevention Code, a controlled burn must only be on an individual’s personal property and not in the city streets or alleys. The only items lawfully allowed in controlled burns inside the city limits are leaves, twigs and branches that are under 3 inches in diameter. Do not burn household items or furniture. Fires set for the disposal of yard wastes shall not be closer than 50 feet to any structure. Tickets and fines will be issued if the ordinance is not followed. To view the full ordinance, go to rpmo.com and click “City Government.”
