The Future Golfers Program was started a few years ago with the idea of getting the youth of the area into golfing. For two weeks students are paired up with a mentor, and they go out on the course and work on different aspects of the game, i.e. putting, chipping, teeing off and hitting out of the fairway. A total of 57 youth took part this year.
The Rock Port Future Golfers program capped off the two weeks of lessons with 12 kids participating in the Future Golfers Classic June 30, 2018. Teams consisted of a youth golfer and their parent or mentor.
Twenty-two of those youth golfers were taken over to Maryville to play the Watson 9 on July 3, 2018. The Watson 9 at Mozingo Lake Recreation Park opened May 14, 2016, and has been named one of the Top 15 Hybrid Courses in North America by Golf Digest Magazine. The nine hole short junior/executive course was designed in partnership with the Tom Watson Golf Course Design Group, Inc. and is expected to serve for generations as a vehicle for junior golf instructional programs.
