Last week’s Tarkio Avalanche mentioned that the city council has instructed its chief of police to enroll three additional members of the police force for duty on Saturday nights to handle drunks and direct traffic. This means that Tarkio will have five police officers on duty over the weekend. The Avalanche says that “drunks practically took the north side of Main street for a time Saturday night.” Rock Port, according to this is not alone in its problem of law infractions on Saturday evenings, and maybe it would be a good idea for Marshal Maupin and Nightwatch Bartholomew to have some help in quieting the boisterous spirits of the young fry who apparently ignore gasoline rationing and “run the wheels off their cars” as they parade up and down the streets when traffic is the thickest.
