When I was crowned “Miss Fairfax 2017” I was very excited and couldn’t wait to get started working towards a scholarship by learning more about Fairfax! Since then, I’m happy to report that I’ve had a great year of new experiences!
My first order of business with the help of Jr. Miss Fairfax Kendal Straub was gathering everyone at the city park for the annual Christmas Light Night celebration and the welcoming of Santa! Many candy canes, pictures, and wish lists completed the evening of fun!
In December, I was fortunate enough to be able to attend the ribbon cutting for the new “Senior Life Solutions” building at Community Hospital-Fairfax. What a great addition for folks in our community!
In February, I attended the Beta Sigma Phi Sorority meeting where it was filled with lots of laughs and learning about how much they do for Atchison County. I was able to have an extensive question and answer session with all the members so I could be more aware of the positive impact they have in our county. We also filled goodie bags for those in need. They have lifelong friendships with each other, a special connection with people in the community, and do many service projects to support us. I admire every one of these wonderful ladies!
In March I was the Easter Bunny (my favorite duty as Miss Fairfax)! I had so much fun assisting in throwing out the candy, watching the scrambling for the “Big Prize”, and taking pictures with all the kids! It will forever be a fond memory for me!
In June, I assisted with serving meals during the “No Hunger Summer” held at the Nutrition Center in Tarkio ,Missouri. Turns out we had the most popular meal that week, walking tacos! No Hunger Summer is a fantastic way for kids to eat nutritious meals without worry! Many parents were there to eat as well.
I would like to give a shout out to Kris Umbarger and Jill Kingery for all your hard work in making Miss and Jr. Miss Fairfax a continued tradition and the Fairfax community for the support you have given me throughout the 2017-2018 year. And last but not least, I sincerely appreciate the support provided by my family for continuing to push me towards becoming a better person every day!
