Joni Bressler of Rock Port helps students cross Main Street on Friday, August 17.

Joni Bressler of Rock Port has organized a crosswalk campaign to help local school children safely cross Main Street (Hwy. 111) on their way to and from school. A designated crossing area has been set up at the intersection of College Street and Main Street in Rock Port. All students who live on the east side of town who walk and bike to school are asked to cross at this location. This is a direct shot to the drop-off/pick-up doors of the school just two blocks away and will help keep kids in one general location.
The state has been contacted to assess the traffic problem on Main Street and to see if a crosswalk and signs can be added at this location. As for now, Joni and anyone wishing to volunteer will be set up there from 7:35-7:50 a.m. and 3-3:20 p.m. Monday through Friday (with time changes for early outs). If you would like to sign up to be a crossing guard (even if it’s not regularly), contact Joni Bressler. For more information, visit the Rock Port crosswalk help Facebook page. Drivers are urged to use caution on Main Street and side streets close to the school during these times and to please stop for students trying to cross the road.
