On Friday, October 12, at 6:50 p.m. a pick-up driven by Evan Elam of Rock Port turned onto Calhoun street traveling westbound and struck a pole. The pole, owned by KCP&L, was split in half from the impact of the truck. Power was temporarily out for the mid section of town. Employees for the City of Rock Port, KCP&L and Rock Port Telephone were called out to repair damages to their lines.

According to the crash report, the vehicle was traveling too fast and the driver was distracted. Elam and his passenger were not injured. J.E. Chandler of the Rock Port Police Department was the responding officer.
