CHALLENGES
Rock Port R-II has some great kick-ball players. Sometimes when they kick it just right the wind takes it and it lands on top of the school’s roof. Mr. Waigand’s STEM challenge last year was to create a device that can get playground balls off the top of the roof (14-15′ high). The device must be able to be run by students. A contract for the design and $100 was awarded to Cooper and Kinleigh Daugherty for the winning project.
Elementary students were given the following challenges:
• Take the Summer Reading challenge (each individual person creates a summer reading goal). If 50 students successfully reach their summer reading goal and turn it in, Mr. Waigand will spend the day up on the roof of the school.
• Mission and Vision. Copy the school’s mission and vision onto a sheet of paper or on the computer. Students are invited to be creative and artistic and submit their design at the back to school event in August. More information went home with students. The winning design will be framed and put on display at all four entrances to the elementary building. The winning mission statement design and the winning vision statement design will each win $50.
