With a day full of events – a parade, poodles, plenty of patriotism and pops of pretty colors – the Freedom Celebration in Brownville promises to be a party to remember.

Mark your calendar to spend the day – from the Freedom Run (a 5K, 10K and half-marathon chip-timed run that supports all Freedom Day celebration activities) to a delicious breakfast hosted by the Eastern Star. Bring your dog to the annual dog show to see if they can win prettiest dog (no pre-registration necessary) outside the Lyceum Café.

“The whole town pulls together to plan this event,” said Deborah Solie, Freedom Celebration committee member. “Merchants in Brownville will be open, and the Brownville Historical Society and Brownville Fine Arts Association will have museums open for guests to tour. There is an activity for everyone on the 4th of July.”

Children will be delighted with a day full of events just for them. Events include a decorated bike contest where everyone is a winner, patriotic parade with lots of candy, children’s activities hosted by the Brownville Fine Arts Association (including face painting and a bounce house), and the Junior Freedom Run to take home a winning medal.

The Nemaha Volunteer Fire and Rescue squad will serve a delicious lunch as a fundraiser for their program.

Adults won’t be left out with Summerfest at the Brownville Market featuring a beer garden and fun, a Southeast Community Band Concert featuring patriotic music, and boat rides on the Spirit of Brownville.

The whole family will enjoy special music by the Sweetwater Bluegrass Band in the afternoon, Porcelain Throne in the evening and fireworks to wrap up the night.
