The Fairfax Optimist Club invites the community to the 54th Annual Fairfax Fair August 9 and 10. This year’s theme is “Barn in the USA – A Salute to Rural America.”
Due to safety concerns, spectators are asked to not use golf carts in the park this year. The Optimists suggest that those needing assistance enter the park at the northeast corner and plan to leave at the southwest corner.
By Friday evening Fairfax City Park will be filled with game and refreshment stands.
Fairfax Xi Lambda Beta Chapter of Beta Sigma Phi will begin opening ceremonies at 6:15 p.m. Participants from grades one through high school will meet at the northeast end of the park, close to the shelter house, to line up and proceed to the stage. This includes Boy and Girl Scouts, God Squad participants and all others along with the American Legion members. The annual Little Mr. & Miss Fairfax contest is for children 4, 5 and 6 years old who are in the Fairfax School District. They will be first on the stage at 6:30 p.m. sharp.
The Baby/Youth Show will follow with all children welcome. Preregistration is preferred, and registration sheets will be available at the Dairy Diner. Last minute registration must be done by 6:10 p.m. that evening at the north side of stage.
The baby show will consist of the following categories: birth to 6 months, 7 to 11 months, 1 year to 23 months, 2 years to 35 months, 3 years, 4 years, 5 years, and 6 years.
Following introductions of all the categories, the Little Mr. & Miss Fairfax candidates will be brought back on the stage for the announcement of the winners and coronation of the 2019 Little Mr. and Miss Fairfax.

Dance on the Slab will begin at 9:00 p.m.
Parade registration will be at the football field at 9:30 a.m. on Saturday. The Old-Time Tractor Reunion will start at 10:00 a.m. The parade will start down Main Street at 11:00 a.m. Optimists will conclude the parade by tossing out ping pong balls from their float – each worth a prize to be claimed near the stage following the parade. Food/drink and game booths will open following the parade.
Saturday night’s festivities will begin at 6:00 p.m. with “The Star Spangled Banner.” Ben Johnson will perform his Elvis tribute at 6:15 p.m., followed by local talent at 6:45 p.m. At 7:15 p.m., Ben will pay tribute to a variety of great singers, such as Frank Sinatra, Johnny Cash, and Glenn Campbell. More local talent will conclude the evening.
Dance on the Slab will begin at 9:00 p.m.
Community church services will be held in the park at 10:30 a.m.
The After Prom Committee will hold a dinner Sunday, 11:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m., in the Fairfax Community Room.
A tractor pull is also planned for Sunday afternoon at 1:00 p.m. It will be held along Hwy. 59 across from the convenience store.
