The Rock Port Rotary Club’s second annual rodeo got off to a good start Wednesday evening on its three-day program, with performances in the evenings only. There are a number of other attractions on the grounds at the local sales pavilion to entertain the youngsters and those who do not care to watch the bucking horses and other events in the area. The first-night crowd was enormous, but as the performance neared its close was hastened from the grounds by a violent electrical display and rainstorm. Downtown streets were packed with automobiles as the crowd ran for cover.

Rock Port’s Blue Jays are off to a good start on the 1969 football season with 21 returning lettermen and a squad of 55 aspiring for positions on the team. Having 21 returning lettermen is a most unusual situation when compared with prior years with 10-11 lettermen returning.
Although the Jays have plenty of experience on the squad with those lettermen they will lack a great deal in weight this year with Steve Lewis the only member of the squad over 200 pounds, tipping the scales at 210.
Coach Gates and his assistants, Carl Hennington and Claude Whitchurch, will have to rely on quickness on offense to get the desired yardage and punch out the lightest squad to report on the Jay gridiron in years.
