The Rock Port Tourism Board will host its 6th Annual Quilt Show and Vendor Market Saturday, October 26, 2019, 9:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m. In addition to the quilts on display, vendors will be on hand selling crafts and home business items.

A Trunk Show with Star Ann Kloberdanz will be held at 9:30 a.m. Star Ann’s first patchwork project, in the late 1960s, was a comforter made from leftover scraps of garment fabric. It was just a short jump from that to piecing a red, white and blue Irish Chain quilt. Teaching quilt classes, quilt shows, quilt workshops, quilt trips, and quilt guilds have been part of her life.  “Through the decades of quilting, the friendships and stories behind the quilts remain the best part of my quilt journey,” said Star Ann. “In addition to actually creating a quilt, I become thoroughly immersed in historic quilts and the lives of their creators. It is my pleasure to share these stories of women, their quilts, and what I have learned about their lives.”

A second presentation, “It’s Sew Rachel,” will begin at 11:30 a.m. Rachel Andrew began sewing about 30 years ago after taking her first Home Ec class. “I remember asking my mom for a sewing machine for Christmas that year and that was the start of my sewing journey. I would cut up old clothing to repurpose into Barbie clothes,” Rachel said. “I’ve always had a love for making clothing and had several people telling me I should try quilting too. At the time, the only quilts I knew of were the more traditional ones, which are not really my style. I would laugh and tell them ‘I’ll never quilt.’ Eventually, my curiosity got the better of me and I decided to look into quilting. I was flipping through quilt books in our local library and saw a “Crazy 9 Patch” quilt and knew immediately it was meant to be a dress! I’ve since made several quilt dresses and recently presented a line of children’s quilt dresses at Omaha Fashion Week.”

There will be a Quilts of Valor presentation at 1:30 p.m.

The Quilt Show will be held in the Rock Port High School Gym.
