• Mr. and Mrs. Dick Schoneman will have an opening of their new grocery store in the Politz building on North Main Street today. The new store will be known as Dick’s Market.

• W.J. Copeland sold his Allis-Chalmers implement business to Lee Vogel of Rock Port in a transaction completed this week. Mr. Vogel will transfer the business to Rock Port. Mr. Copeland has been owner and manager of the Allis-Chalmers store here for seven years.

December 11, 1969

• The City fire siren will sound at 6:30 in the morning next week Monday through Friday to remind men and boys of the God and Man Services which will start at 7:00 a.m. at the First Baptist Church in Tarkio.

• From attractive decorations to numerous activities, the Tarkio Chamber of Commerce’s annual Christmas promotion is off to a glittering start. Six persons won gift certificates redeemable at participating merchants in the first drawings. Drawings will be held the next two Saturdays in Tarkio and will be at the corner of Fourth and Main Streets under the Christmas tree, which was donated by W.R. Freeman. Santa will be in town those Saturdays at Hooper Insurance with a bag of treats for each child. Free movies for the children will also be held both Saturdays at the Tarkio Theatre starting at 1:15 p.m.

December 8, 1994

• The Tarkio Chamber of Commerce Elves have been busy taping greetings and commercials for the upcoming Elf Auction to be held Saturday, December 10. Elves include Chris Martin, Eric Livengood, Jim Lindsay, Doug Summa, Mike Petry, and Craig Livengood. Gary Vette is the camerman for the Elf Auction, Regena Irvine is the Mother Elf, and Will Johnson is the director.

• St. Joseph Light and Power donated a check for $50,000 to Heartland Educational Institute, the group which owns Schechter Gymnasium on the campus of Tarkio Academy. The money is to be used for tax credits to help start the recreation center at the gym.

• The Strike-Etts Bowling Team has been selected to participate in Unified Bowling for Team Missouri at the 1995 Special Olympics World Summer Games in New Haven, Connecticut. Team members are Nancy Cummings, Jennifer Brown, and special partners Debbie Currie and Leola Brown. Their first place win at the 1993 Unified Bowling Tournament in Joplin, Missouri, put them among the select group from which the finalists were chosen.
