Recently Atchison County Courthouse maintenance man Mark Crawford was cleaning and found a certificate dated 1890 for the commission of Thomas M. Rash for Probate Judge. Thomas served two four-year terms as a Judge, 1886 to 1890, and 1890 to 1894. The probate judge mainly oversaw estates, but didn’t have to be a lawyer. After doing some research the staff was able to locate a relative. Jack Rash, Raymond, Iowa, is the great-great-grandson of Mr. Rash. Jack and his wife were able to make a trip down to the Atchison County Courthouse Monday, December 9, and Judge Corey Herron presented him with the certificate.
