Tarkio Postmaster Barney Farley and his wife, Marty, are both looking forward to retirement. Barney retired Friday, December 20, 2019, after more than 34 years of service.
Tarkio Postmaster Barney Farley put on his tie for the last time in honor of his re“tie”rement on Friday, December 20, 2019. Barney dedicated over 34 years to the United States Postal Service. He began as a city carrier, delivering mail for 5 1/2 years. He then worked as a clerk, as well as the Postmaster in Westboro and Fairfax, Missouri, then was the Officer in Charge in Rock Port, before becoming the Postmaster in Tarkio. A Customer Appreciation Day was held in conjunction with Barney’s retirement on Friday.
Barney’s fellow employees and many customers came in to wish him a fond farewell. Barney said he will really miss all of them as well as working with the public and for his customers is what it’s been all about. He said, “It’s been fun!” Though it will be an adjustment, Barney is looking forward to retirement, taking it easy and then figuring out what to do next. With his wife planning to retire in May, he will be able to spend more time with her and his children and grandchildren. Congratulations Barney! It was always a pleasure doing business with you and seeing your smiling face at the Tarkio Post Office!
Though Barney will definitely be missed, another smiling face will be taking his spot. Deb Fletcher of Tarkio will be the new Tarkio Postmaster. She is currently the Clarinda, Iowa, Postmaster and was Postmaster at Rock Port for six years previous. She’s worked in the Tarkio Post Office in years past so is already familiar with the customers and staff.
