• The Howell Family, glass blowers, will appear in Rankin Hall auditorium sponsored by the Artist Course series of the college. The Howell Family Glass Blowers have been famous the world around for more than 50 years. R.M. Howell, Jr. has represented his family at the Chicago World’s Fair in 1933 and at the New York World’s Fair in 1939 and 1940. Mrs. Howell gave exhibitions at the Golden Gate Exposition in San Francisco.
• Laying themselves open to federal charges with a loot that totaled them only a few smokes, some 12 dollars, and a package of rifle shells, seemingly amateur robbers, yet unknown, early Wednesday morning broke into the C.B.&Q. Depot, Culbertson’s Lumber Yard office, and Hart-Bartlett-Sturtevant Grain company. Investigators deducted that the vandals had done their work in the early morning hours because the places entered had not yet been much cooled off by pried open windows.

• Woodruff Arnold Home Center of Maryville, Missouri, has started remodeling what was formerly the Super Chevy building located at 124 Main Street in Tarkio. They have leased the building from Tarkio Development and hope to be ready for business by March 15. The Tarkio store will have a full line of lumber, hardware and plumbing items, and paint, plus a limited line of rental equipment available to customers.
• Elizabeth Freeman celebrated her 95th birthday on January 12, 1995, at the Community Room in the Farmers and Valley Bank in Tarkio. Approximately 71 people attended the celebration.
• The Tarkio High School Boys’ and Girls’ Basketball Teams won the Fairfax Tournament. The girls defeated Rock Port for the win and the boys defeated Fairfax.
January 22, 1970
• At the Mule Barn this Saturday, January 24, a group of Tarkio College students will be seen in a comedy, “School for Wives.” This hilarious play by the French writer, Moliere, is directed by John Ferola, Assistant Professor of Literature and Drama and Director of the Mule Barn Theatre.
• John Masonbrink began Monday, January 19, as teacher of science for grades 7 and 8 in Tarkio’s Middle School, replacing Mrs. Sue Kottman, who died unexpectedly January 8. Mr. Masonbrink just finished his practice teaching at Pawnee City, Nebraska, and has both a BA and BS degree in education. He also served in the Air Force for six years and attained the rank of Captain.
