The Tarkio R-I Board of Education met Wednesday, January 15, 2019, at Tarkio High School. The meeting was called to order by President Jeff Meyer at 7:00 p.m. Board members who were in attendance were: Jamie Barnett, Chris Yates, Garrett Wood, Sam Hannah, and Steve Klute. Ann Schlueter was absent. Others in attendance were Tarkio R-I Superintendent Karma Coleman, Tarkio Elementary Principal Kari Taylor, Tarkio High School Principal Carrie Livengood, board secretary Lanette Hogue, Markie Sundermann, Deyton Thomson, Terry Wooten, Brooke Walton, Blu Dow, Dallas Prather, Jennifer Peregrine, Shannon Bruns, Diana Parra, and Rachel Meyer.

The board members voted to approve the amended agenda, as well as district obligations.

The CTA provided cake for School Board Appreciation. CTA will be hosting a Trivia Night on January 25, 2020.

Rachel Meyer presented on the happenings of the Tarkio Activity Center.

Food Service Report – Opaa! shared a newsletter of the happenings in the cafeteria. Mrs. Coleman shared a report on participation of the lunch program for 17-18, 18-19, and 19-20. Mrs. Swaby reported on lunch account balances. The annual food service financial report was given.

Elementary Principal Kari Taylor reported that the elementary had 93% attendance for December. She reported that the ACES social worker has started meeting with administration and counselors. Mrs. Spire is taking a group of third and fourth grade boys over to P.E. in the high school with Mr. Behrens and the senior boys for mentoring. Mrs. Spire is busy getting counseling groups and individual sessions with the students going. The elementary staff is gathering information on ELA text books that they would like to purchase to go along with their curriculum.

High School Principal Carrie Livengood reported the attendance rate for year to date is 96% at the high school, 10% of the students had lower than 90% attendance. The high school has many events going on with basketball, wrestling, FFA, FCCLA, FBLA and scholar bowl. Mrs. Cooper and Mrs. Livengood have begun working on the master schedule for next year. Tarkio Tech will host a career fair on January 22 and January 29. Mrs. Cooper will take the sophomores on January 22.

Superintendent Mrs. Coleman gave a financial report and shared the District Report Card. She shared Tarkio Tech’s Memorandum of Understanding. She gave legislative updates on property tax, vaping, teacher pay, and school reform. Information was shared that area superintendents have gathered on student/teacher ratios.

The board members voted to approve the first reading of the calendar for 2020-2021, as well as a revision of Policy 1210 Calendar Requirements as presented.

Chris Yates moved and Jamie Barnett seconded to approve the bid from Midwest Tennis and Track in the amount of $97,125.00. The motion carried 6-0.

Steve Klute moved and Garrett Wood seconded to approve the Drug Use Policy as presented effective July 1, 2020. The motion carried 6-0.

The meeting moved into closed session pursuant to RSMo§ Record and Vote at 8:05 p.m. The board voted to exit the closed meeting at 8:55 p.m.

Jeff Meyer moved and Garrett Wood seconded to extend Karma Coleman’s Superintendent Contract through the 2021-2022 school year. The motion carried 6-0.
