February 15, 1946

•Among 17 youths sworn into the Navy at Kansas City Monday were three Rock Port High School boys: Merle Fox, son of Mrs. Genevieve Fox; Eugene Roberts, son of Mr. and Mrs. Chas. Roberts; and Marvin Fisher, son of Mr. and Mrs. John Fisher. Roberts, a member of the senior class, quit school at holiday time; Fox is a junior and Fisher a sophomore. 

•Main Street in Rock Port was filled Tuesday with numerous farmers and their wives who had come to town to attend the annual soils and crops conference which was held at the Memorial Building. The men and women had separate meetings as a preliminary to activities later in the day, when all gathered to hear the final phases of the programs. 

February 18, 1971

• Gene Lininger will open a plumbing business, heating and air conditioning shop in the building belonging to Mrs. Daisy Opp on the corner of Main and Mill Streets. Lininger, a 1960 graduate of Rock Port R-II, has done this type of work for seven years. He has worked with air conditioning for the past five years. He had been affiliated with his uncle in this type of work until a year ago when he went in business for himself, working from his home.

• Rock Port now has an extremely happy staff of administrators since the new cafeteria has opened, and the new grade school portion of the school is in full swing. No more sack lunches, and no more worrying about Junior getting home from Langdon relieves mothers and children.

February 15, 1996 

• The temperature at Bank Midwest read -19° on February 5. The sub-zero temps caused many pipes to freeze, resulting in many breaks. 

• Raids at a mobile home in Mound City and at an old garage in Craig nabbed two people on the state’s most wanted list and shut down a methamphetamine drug lab last week. Photo and descriptions of the two individuals had appeared in newspapers and on TV, describing them as armed and dangerous. 

•A high speed chase near Rock Port, Missouri, on the morning of Wednesday, February 7, resulted in the arrest of a Council Bluffs, Iowa, man and the recovery of a stolen vehicle. The suspect was arrested at 11:00 a.m. by Missouri State Hwy. Patrolman and Atchison County Sheriff after the vehicle he was driving became stuck in a ditch.
