University of Missouri Extension faculty are gearing up this spring to offer Build Your Board, a 10-session, non-profit board training program. Build Your Board will be offered from 12:00 noon to 1:00 p.m., Tuesdays and Thursdays, starting April 22, and continuing through May 25. The statewide program will be offered live, utilizing the Zoom webinar platform, and will help participants understand and master the responsibilities needed to be an effective, non-profit board member. MU Extension instructors for this course come from across the state and have a wide variety of experience working on non-profit boards.

Build Your Board registration is $75 per person, but goes up to $80 after April 1. Group discounts are available for organzations that would like to register multiple board members from the same organziation. Online registration is required, and may be found at: https://extension.missouri.edu/events/board-training-online-1614968571 or by going to www.extension.missouri.edu and searching “board training online.”

“Proper training is vital in good board development, and the Build Your Board curriculum was specifically developed to help individuals who currently serve or hope to serve on a board,” said Amber Childers, an instructor for the course and County Engagement Specialist with the University of Missouri Extension in Mississippi County. “This class should help participants build the skills needed to support the growth of strong, effective non-profit boards.”

Build Your Board is offered by MU Extension faculty in the Business and Communities program, and content can be tailored to meet the needs of any organization. This online course, however, is a general course that has not been customized for any specific organization, but is relevant to board members regardless of the type of non-profit they represent.

“Board members should understand their basic responsibilities, and what it takes to be an effective board member. This class will help them do that,” said David Burton, program instructor and County Engagement Specialist with the Univeristy of Missouri Extension in Greene County.
