• The Tarkio College Artist Course will present Robert Elliott, one of America’s finest young violinists for its next number. Mr. Elliott is praised by the leading music critics of New York and Chicago for his rich, luscious tone and his sensitive interpretation.

• Claude A. Templeton was elected mayor in the Tarkio city election Tuesday. Keith Hurst was re-elected alderman in the North Ward and George Knepper was elected alderman in the South Ward.

April 3, 1969

• The Farmers and Valley Bank announced Tuesday that the bank had purchased the Tarkio Implement Co. building and property and the Sinclair building and property. This is the full length of the block of Fifth and Main Streets. They plan to develop the property for the improvement of the community, but no definite plans have been announced at this time.

• An antique show and flea market, the first of its kind in recent years in Atchison County, will be staged June 14 at the Tarkio Community Building by Atchison County Historical Society. Not only will commercial antique dealers be invited to display their wares in booths, but there will be plenty of booths available for amateur owners of antiques and bric-a-brac who wish to sell their material, according to Harry Broermann of Tarkio, society president.

• Tarkio Hy-Vee donated Easter baskets to the annual Easter Egg Hunt held in Tarkio. The event was held on the lawn of Community Care at Tarkio on Saturday, April 2, and was sponsored by the Nu Sigma Chapter of Beta Sigma Phi in Tarkio.

• Members of the Tarkio and Westboro Senior UMYF held a car wash on Saturday, April 2. The youth washed 92 vehicles with proceeds from the event going toward a trip to Phoenix, Arizona, this May. In Phoenix, UMYF members will work to convert a former hotel into a shelter for the homeless.
