• Fairfax high school will hold its annual work day Friday and pupils will do odd jobs, turning the proceeds into the activity fund.

• The fourth annual Future Farmers of America (FFA) banquet was a decided success. The banquet held Friday night, April 7, was attended by about 100 fathers and mothers and other guests.

• A two-inch rain accompanied by some hail fell here Monday night, delaying farm work for several days.

April 10, 1969

• Some 130 children visited the Easter Bunny in Fairfax last Saturday afternoon, even though the weather felt more like Christmas than Easter. Teenage girls helped distribute treats to the youngsters. This is a Community Club sponsored event.

• Miss Helen M. Sims will be one of eight women to be recognized at the annual Matrix Table dinner Saturday evening at Hotel Muehlebach in Kansas City. Miss Sims, a member of Theta Sigma Phi, organization for women in journalism and communications, and her mother, Mrs. L. Roy Sims, are the first mother and daughter to be honored for their contributions to the field of community journalism. Mrs. Sims was a Matrix honoree in 1965.

• Appearing with the concert band of Notre Dame University is Harry Lee Irvine, grandson of Mrs. Maude M. Irvine of Fairfax. The young man is the son of Dr. and Mrs. Harry L. Irvine of Valley Stream, New York. Playing first cornet with the band, young Irvine also serves as vice-president of the organization which travels more than 3,500 miles each spring to points in the states, Canada, and Mexico.

April 14, 1994

• The Fairfax City Council met April 6 instead of April 13 for the purpose of installing newly elected officials. The City Clerk swore in new council members Mrs. Helen Golden, North Ward, D.A. Martin, South Ward, and new marshal, Jay Burge.

• Last week members of the Fairfax Optimist Club added a fine chat coating to the walking track. They used a roller to pack the surface. The track has been a great asset to those needing a level and uninterrupted

place to walk.
