SUMMARY:Tarkio Scouts to host Sea Base fundraisers
DESCRIPTION:The Tarkio Scout Troop 88 will host two lunches in October to raise funds to attend Sea Base\, a high-adventure scouting program held in the Florida Keys. A free-will offering lunch of pulled pork sandwiches\, baked beans\, potato chips\, cookies\, and bottled water will be held Sunday\, October 5\, from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. A free-will offering lunch of chili\, brats or hot dogs\, jumbo cinnamon rolls\, and bottled water will be held Sunday\, October 19\, from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. Both events are drive-through only and will be held in the Tarkio Elementary School parking lot. \nSea Base provides Scouts with opportunities to snorkel\, enjoy primitive island camping\, shark fish\, kayak\, and experience ocean-based learning. Local Scouts who will attend in June of 2026 are Bo Peregrine\, Jax Peregrine\, Chase Gayler\, Owen Vette\, and Josh Schlueter. If you are unable to attend these two fundraisers\, but would still like to support the Boy Scouts on their trip\, contact Matt Schlueter at 816-719-5260.

SUMMARY:85th Annual Lord's Acre Day Festival
DESCRIPTION:The Westboro Methodist Church in Westboro\, Missouri\, is hosting its 85th annual Lord’s Acre Day Festival Saturday and Sunday\, October 11 and 12\, 2025. The weekend will be full of fun-filled festivities for people of all ages. This year’s theme is “Be The Light.” \nFestivities will kick off Saturday morning\, October 11\, with a crafts\, baked goods\, and miscellaneous sale at 8:00 a.m. in the church. A cake contest and auction will take place at 8:30 a.m. All cakes must be in place by 8:30 a.m. and judging will commence at 9:00 a.m. There are two classes of cake entries – box and scratch – with prizes being awarded in each. Categories in the adult competition will include best German chocolate cake\, best angel food cake\, best butter cake\, and best decorated cake. The children’s contests (under 12 and 12 and over) will include best cake and best decorated cake. All cakes will be auctioned. The auctioneer will be Jon Flack. \nA parade will begin at 9:30 a.m. with entrants to assemble at the City Park on Main Street by 8:30 a.m. Judging will be completed by 9:00 a.m. The parade will end at the schoolhouse lot by the ballfield. The parade is open to the public. The grand marshal will be Kerry Sue Million. Join in the fun with your floats\, bicycles\, ATVs or small motorized vehicles\, pets\, horses/mules/ponies\, bands\, loads of grain\, livestock\, farm equipment\, old vehicles\, motorcycles\, car clubs\, and costumes. Prizes will be awarded to participants. \nAn auction will be held at 9:45 a.m. at the church. Cakes\, crafts\, grain\, and miscellaneous items will be sold in the church sanctuary. \nA lunch of ham or chicken and dressing\, mashed potatoes and gravy\, sweet potatoes\, green beans\, corn\, salads\, pie\, cake\, coffee\, and tea will be served from 11:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at the church. Free-will donations will be accepted with proceeds going to the church. \nOther Lord’s Acre activities include a bounce house for the kids on the north side of the church\, a corn hole tournament at 1:00 p.m. (to enter call 660-254-0084 by 9:00 p.m. Friday\, October 10 – no late entries)\, children’s games on the west side of the church at 1:00 p.m.\, a baby show in the church at 1:30 p.m. (3 years and under)\, and a horseshoe tournament at 3:00 p.m. \nA chili and potato soup supper will begin at 5:00 p.m. in the church with the menu to include chili\, potato soup\, hot dogs\, desserts\, and drinks. Free-will donations will be accepted with proceeds going to the church. \nA Lord’s Acre Thanksgiving Worship Service will be held Sunday\, October 12\, at 9:30 a.m. at the church. The Westboro Methodist Church is located at 302 1st Street. Everyone in the county and beyond is encouraged to come celebrate Christ and take part in these fun-filled events in Westboro.

DESCRIPTION:Missouri’s Great Northwest Winefest will be held at Griffith Park in Mound City\, Missouri\, Saturday\, October 11\, from 11:30 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. Now in its 16th year\, the Winefest will welcome over 1\,500 visitors who come to sip\, shop\, and celebrate Northwest Missouri’s finest offerings. \nThis year’s Winefest will feature wineries\, breweries\, and distilleries from across the region\, including: Backyard Vine & Wine\, Baltimore Bend Vineyard\, DeLaney Winery\, Fence Stile Vineyard & Winery\, Jowler Creek Vineyard\, Luna Umbra Winery\, Levi Garrison & Sons Brewing CO.\, Long Line Distillery\, The Windy Wine Company\, R/Farm Distillery\, Saint James Winery\, Walnut Creek\, Prairie Barn Winery\, and The Wine Slushie Co. Guests 21+ can enjoy unlimited samples and purchase their favorite bottles to take home. \nPrairie Barn Winery is owned by Shannon and Brian Tharp\, former Rock Port residents. For the Tharps\, this event is more than just a showcase\, it’s a continuation of their love story and shared passion for creating wines made from Missouri grown grapes. Shannon remarked\, “Making wine and joining the wine making community in the St. James area and the Meramec River Wine Trail has been amazing. I’m excited to be at the festival this year and to share wines that I’ve poured my heart into.” From red to white and dry to sweet\, Prairie Barn Winery has wine for everyone. “Every wine we make has a story\,” Shannon added. “We hope to share those stories – and a few laughs – at the festival!” \nIn addition to tastings\, guests can relax and enjoy live performances throughout the day from The Curtis Wayne Stroud Band\, Angie Kelim\, Josie Watkins\, and Ben Johnson (Elvis impersonator).
