SUMMARY:Titan submersible/Francis Scott Key Bridge salvager to speak at Tarkio Tech
DESCRIPTION:Paul Hankins\, who is retired from the U.S. Navy and is the Director of Salvage Operations and Navy Supervisor of Salvage and worked on the salvage operations of both the Titan submersible implosion and the Francis Scott Key Bridge collapse\, will be speaking at Tarkio Tech. Listen to Paul\, whose wife and mother-in-law are former Tarkio residents and Tarkio College students\, share about his life and work. He will give a presentation at 10:00 a.m. Monday\, September 22\, at the Rotary Theatre in the Curnutt Center on the Tarkio Tech campus. The event is open to all. \nThe Titan submersible was a deep-sea vessel operated by OceanGate that imploded June 18\, 2023\, killing all five passengers during a voyage to the wreck of the Titanic in the northern Atlantic Ocean. It was the first privately owned submersible with a claimed maximum depth of 4\,000 meters and the first completed crewed submersible with a hull constructed of titanium and carbon fiber composite materials. On March 26\, 2024\, at 1:28 a.m. EDT\, the main spans and the three nearest northeast approach spans of the Francis Scott Key Bridge across the Patapsco River in the Baltimore metropolitan area of Maryland collapsed after the container ship Dali struck one of its piers. Six members of a maintenance crew working on the roadway were killed\, while two more were rescued from the river. The collapse blocked most shipping to and from the Port of Baltimore for 11 weeks and the economic impact of the closure of the waterway has been estimated at $15 million per day.

SUMMARY:Tarkio Elementary Book Fair
DESCRIPTION:Tarkio Elementary School will host the Scholastic Book Fair Monday\, September 15\, through Friday\, September 19\, 2025. This is an event geared to excite children about reading and learning. The fair will be held in the elementary library and is open to Tarkio citizens and the surrounding community. \nThe book fair helps the school promote learning while raising money to purchase new books and materials for the library. Money raised at the book fair has been used to rejuvenate the library in many ways. Funds have also been instrumental in providing field trip experiences to children meeting the yearly Mark Twain Ultimate Reading Challenge\, as well as incentives for quarterly awards and school-wide reading celebrations. Along with these neat things\, the library can purchase books at half the retail cost and earn product vouchers for use in the Scholastic catalog as a reward for participation in book fair promotions and meeting sales goals. \nThe book fair will offer popular books and educational products for all ages\, including the newest titles from more than 150 publishers. All are offered at reasonable prices so that students can choose books that appeal to their personal interests and parents can add to home libraries. The fair is open Monday through Thursday from 7:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. and will close on Friday\, September 19\, by 8:30 a.m. \nScholastic now offers an online shopping option as well. Shop in the comfort of your own home while earning rewards for the school with every purchase you make. Go to the online fair at https://www.scholastic.com/bf/tarkioelementaryschool and click “Shop Now.” The online fair can also be accessed through the Tarkio R-I school webpage. If you are interested in helping with the book fair\, contact Tarkio Elementary at 660-736-4177.

SUMMARY:Todd Oliver’s “Funniest Night Of Your Life” coming to the Liberty Theatre
DESCRIPTION:Have you ever met a talking dog? A real talking dog? And when was the last time you sat in a cozy little theater and watched lovely little birds and a live bunny appear out of thin air? \nGet  ready\,  because  the Liberty Theatre\, in conjunction with the Rock Port Tourism Board\, is bringing world class magic and ventriloquism to Rock Port Saturday\, September 13\, at 7:00 p.m.\, and Sunday\, September 14\, at 2:30 p.m. at the Liberty Theatre in the Atchison County Memorial Building in Rock Port\, Missouri. This show packs fast\, big and funny surprises that will grab and hold your attention and keep a smile on your face for 90 minutes. \nTodd Oliver will present a critically acclaimed show filled with the joy and wonder and magical mysteries fresh and uncommon in today’s world of family entertainment. Or as Todd puts it\, “I carefully design and present illusions that audiences don’t see every day. I want the people to have a new uplifting and fun filled reaction at my show.” \nTodd Oliver grew up loving magic\, music\, and ventriloquism. As a young boy he studied comedy and the variety arts. Along the way he created some wooden headed characters and that combined with his fury and feathered friends\, Todd  continues to perform around the world choosing to appear in small and medium intimate venues for a truly up close and personal experience. \nTodd Oliver and Friends have been a feature on “The Late Show with David Letterman\,” “The Tonight Show with Jay Leno\,” “The Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson\,” “The Today Show\,” and a couple episodes of “Walker Texas Ranger.” In 2012 they were a top four finalist on “America’s Got Talent.” \nA major draw for many years on showboats in Branson\, Missouri\, and Nashville\, Tennessee\, as well as other major entertainment venues\, Todd is now touring\, bringing his brand of clean and magical family fun to towns across America. \nYou might even be on stage yourself as Todd turns audience members into real live ventriloquist dummies! \nTickets for adults will be $20 for general admission and $30 for VIP (table top\, top seating\, and some concessions). Children under the age of 12 will get in free. Watch for more information on this exciting show!
