No Hunger Summer begins June 1

June 1 @ 10:30 am - July 1 @ 12:30 pm

No Hunger Summer will begin June 1. The program will move from the United Methodist Church to the Rock Port School cafeteria. Amy Skillen, Dixie Teten, Donnie Parson, and Debbie Bennett, No Hunger Summer Advocates, feel the school will be an ideal location to feed even more local kids.

Changes for summer 2022 include the following:

• Meals are supposed to be eaten on-site. Due to a new government regulation, meals cannot be packaged for pick-up like they have done in the past.

• No turkey sandwiches (supply chain issue).

• Volunteers can sign up with a group of their choosing or as an individual on days where an extra helper is needed.

• There will be three cold meals a week (Monday, Wednesday, and Friday), and two hot meals (Tuesday and Thursday).

• Dixie Teten and Amy Skillen are taking care of the meal planning, paperwork, and volunteer schedule.

All kids (regardless of income) eat free. All kids can get seconds and there will be a “sharing” table for extras. Adults bringing a child cost $1 (optional), and volunteers eat free. The program costs the community of Rock Port nothing.

All kids are encouraged to eat at No Hunger Summer because it is free for all kids, and if all kids will take advantage of the program, those who really need it will not feel singled out or self-conscious.

The program will run from June 1 to July 1. Kids will be served from 10:45 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Volunteers should plan to be present from 10:00 a.m. to 12:45 p.m.
