• The executive committee of the board of directors of Tarkio College has approved a project for the building of a new heating plant on the campus. The new plant will be located just west of the present heating plant. The new plant will be equipped with two new Kewanee boilers with automatic stokers and controls.

• Mr. and Mrs. Guy Roberts sold their residential property on North Fifth Street to Mrs. Willis Johnson last week. Mr. and Mrs. Roberts and children are residing at the home of Miss Mary Carlson until their home on the farm is ready for occupancy.

March 27, 1969

• Mr. and Mrs. Herbert Beggs of Tarkio were named the 1968 Atchison County Balanced Farming Award winners. The Beggses were guests of the Chamber of Commerce of Greater Kansas City Tuesday, March 18, at a noon luncheon.

• The Walnut Hotel Apartments will be open for inspection Sunday, March 30. There are eight air-conditioned, newly redecorated furnished apartments. The public is invited to the open house.

• The Fabric Boutique, another bright new spot on Tarkio’s Main Street, will hold a grand opening this Saturday. The attractive shop, owned and operated by Moneta and Voyne Smith, includes roomy display areas with a fitting room, workroom and workshop on the first floor and classroom space in the basement where sewing classes will be offered.

• The Tarkio Rotary Club donated $6,000 to the Atchison-Holt Counties’ Disaster Response Team to be used in flood relief and recovery in the two counties.

• Youth Services International, Inc. (YSI) announced YSI’s expected expansion into Missouri. The venture, outlined in the memorandum of understanding with First Bank Investors Trust, would involve leasing the vacant Tarkio College property in Tarkio, Missouri.
