• A news reel recently shown at The Crescent gave Fairfax folks a glimpse of Lieut. H.B. Dunlap, who is on duty with the U.S. Navy in the South Pacific. The reel showed a group of officers on their ship and when they turned toward the camera Henry could be easily identified. Lieut. Dunlap has been in the South Pacific war area for many months and has taken part in several of the major naval engagements in that area.
• Fire which was discovered about 12:30 p.m. Wednesday did considerable damage to the roof of the Methodist parsonage before the flames could be extinguished. Fortunately, Rev. Dodson, occupant of the parsonage, had a hose handy and Ralph Hackett was on hand soon after the alarm sounded. Ralph climbed to the roof of the house and had the flames pretty well under control when the fire truck arrived. A hole some eight or ten feet square was burned in the roof and considerable damage done to the interior by smoke and water.

• Don Bowman displayed his coin collection valued at several thousand dollars at a hobby show at the Pearce Gift Shop last Monday evening, along with other collectors. Mr. Bowman stated that he has been collecting since 1939 and except when showing, he keeps the collection in a bank vault in Maryville.
• Over 400 persons viewed the Sunday afternoon style show presented by Mrs. Corinne Mitchell and her home economic students. All garments modeled were constructed in the clothing classes of the department.

• This week a new businessman takes over the grocery store in Fairfax. Hunter’s grocery, owned by Jim and Janet Hunter, sold to Audie Jackson the business and building. The Hunter store was originated in 1913 by B.P. Hunter. The store will be called Fairfax Market and he will still be with Affiliated grocery.
• The Fairfax fire department was kept busy last Thursday with two grass fires. The first call was to a field south of Fairfax city limits in the morning. The second call was in the afternoon to the Tony Grossman farm for a grass fire.
