The Rock Port Girl Scouts celebrated Girl Scout week. They kicked it off on Girl Scout Sabbath, Sunday, March 10, by wearing their uniforms to church.

They met March 12 for their monthly meeting and enjoyed a fun STEM activity as an alternative way to blow out birthday candles. This activity tied in perfectly with the 107th birthday of Girl Scouts. Girls Scouts was founded by Juliette Gordon Lowe on March 12, 1912. The girls were encouraged to wear their uniforms to school on Wednesday, March 13.

Every year Girl Scouts strive to include a community service and appreciation in their celebrations during Girl Scout Week. This year Rock Port Girl Scouts wanted to thank our local law enforcement for their dedication and protection of our community and our Girl Scouts. They donated Girl Scout cookies and awarded the Rock Port Police Department and Atchison County Sheriff’s Office with a certificate of appreciation.

They also attended the annual Girl Scout Daddy Daughter Dance that was started by Sam O’Riley, Fairfax troop leader/Rock Port co-leader. The dance was attended by all three troops from Atchison County. This year’s theme was “The Wizard of Oz.”
